Marianna Sets Commemoration Plans

Marianna recently became a city partner of the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Commemoration but has already started planning and promoting the project. The group participated in the annual "Autumn on the Square" in downtown Marianna on September 21 by promoting the Louisiana Purchase and DAR events. The city committee has also designed Louisiana Purchase monument notepaper that is for sale. They have informed the Chamber of Commerce and local Rotary of the commemoration. Plans for May 2003 include participation in May 10 events, exhibits, a Lee County Living History vignette in City Square, and a Cedar Heights Cemetery illuminated tour. The Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Committee of Arkansas is proud to partner with such an involved community.
