"Day in the Delta" Planned May 10

Come celebrate Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial with a day in the Delta on May 10, 2003. From 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon enjoy living history characters, boardwalk tours and other activities at the Louisiana Purchase Historic State Park. At 10, there will be a short program dedicating the boardwalk site and the DAR will re-dedicate the National Historic landmark marker.

Also that morning, Village Creek State Park will be hosting the Ride the Ridge Bike Tour and Family Fun Ride. The 73-mile bike tour will begin at 8 a.m.; the fun ride will take place within the park and start at 9 a.m. Louisiana Purchase based programming will be available all day at the park. For bike ride information and registration, please visit http://www.lapurchase.org/calendar/calendar_05-10-03_rr.html.

At 2:00 p.m., Brinkley will be hosting the grand opening and dedication of the Central Delta Historical Society Depot and Museum. Over $800,000 has been raised by this small Delta town to restore their historic downtown train depot for use as a museum to showcase local history and the importance of the Louisiana Purchase to their area. Following the dedication at 2 p.m., the Choo Choo Ch'Boogie Delta Music Festival will take place on the lawn of the depot, featuring LeVon Helm and the Barnburners, Sonny Burgess and the Pacers, Willie Cobbs, John Weston, Greasy Greens and more.

All events are free and open to the public.
