Debut of Curriculum Materials
April 29, 2002

The first teacher workshop on the Louisiana Purchase in Arkansas was held April 19 in Paragould. Attending teachers were presented with key issues to use in their classroom to teach the history of the Purchase from Lea Baker, Education Coordinator for the Department of Arkansas Heritage.

Curriculum materials, including lesson plans, a speaker's bureau listing, and an ABC poster of Louisiana Purchase people, places and events were distributed. Additional curriculum materials available from the Department of Arkansas Heritage include an interactive CD-ROM and surveying activity booklets.

The debut workshop was held in conjunction with the annual conference of the Arkansas Historical Association.

Contact Baker (501-324-9150) for more information about future teacher workshops on the Louisiana Purchase or check the calendar of events on the Louisiana Purchase web site www.lapurchase.org for a listing of scheduled summer workshops.
