Specific topics to be showcased include: the manner in which the land was made available to settlers (exploration, surveying, grants, etc.); the types of technology used in growing cotton (gins, presses, farm implements, steam power, etc.), the type of labor available (slaves, indentured servants, subsistence farmers and later sharecroppers, tenants, etc.) and the way the industry led to the growth of an infrastructure (steamboats, trains and roads for transportation to market, stores to supply the plantations, etc.)
