Louisiana
Purchase Treaty Exhibit Opening
Come
celebrate the event that made Arkansas American. During
Arkansas Heritage Month in May, 2003, the Old State
House Museum will exhibit the actual Louisiana Purchase
Treaty signed by representatives of the French and American
governments, including James Monroe. This is the most
significant historical document to be shown in Arkansas
since the bicentennial tour of the Constitution in 1989.
This tribute to the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial
will open with a special gala at the Old State House
from 5:30-7:30 PM, Friday, May 2, 2003, which will officially
kick-off Arkansas Heritage Month. The Governor and other
prominent Arkansans will take part in the festivities
that include free refreshments, historical re-enactors,
and music by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. All agencies
of the Department of Arkansas Heritage will participate,
including the Arkansas Arts Council, Arkansas Historic
Preservation Program, the Arkansas Natural Heritage
Commission, the Delta Culture Center, and the Historic
Arkansas Museum.
