Weiche, chair of the Fort Smith Bicentennial Committee,
announced a series of events commemorating the Louisiana
Purchase Bicentennial to be held in Fort Smith, April
26-May 1, 2003. "Fort Smith is excited to highlight
our history and serve as a partnering city for the Louisiana
Purchase Bicentennial Commemoration", Weiche stated.
The following schedule is the most current information
for the activities and events planned in Fort Smith:
March
- April Fort Smith Public Library hosting a photographic
exhibit entitled,
Lewis and Clark Revisited: A Trail in Modern Day,
by Greg MacGregor.
Also included excerpts from the journals kept by Lewis
and Clark.
April
10th - Fort Smith Public Library hosting an evening
with M.R.
Montgomery, author of Jefferson and the Gun-men:How
the West was Almost Lost 6:30 P.M.
April
26th Fort Smith Art Center hosting public reception
5:00-8:00 P.M. for
Charles Bank's Wilson art exhibit
April
28th Private Reception hosted for Sponsor's, Tribal
Leaders,
Clay Jenkinson,and awarding scholarships to students.
